This elegant poster features Model and Oranges (1953), a late work by the celebrated French artist Henri Matisse (1869–1954). Originally printed for Louisiana Museum’s first Matisse exhibition in 1985, it is now part of the museum’s exclusive Louisiana Poster Classics collection.
Created just a year before his death, Model and Oranges is a refined lithograph defined by its limited color palette, fluid lines, and bold shapes. In this piece, Matisse sought to simplify visual language and challenge the conventional color harmonies of his time.
Internationally renowned for his expressive use of color and form, Matisse was a pioneering figure in Fauvism—an early 20th-century art movement known for its vivid, unblended colors. Beyond painting, Matisse also explored sculpture, printmaking, and later, paper cut-outs and collage.
As one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Henri Matisse continues to leave a lasting mark on the world of modern art.
